DMT Visits “Low-Carbon Rice Farming” Pilot Plot Following Scheduled Drying Cycle to Reduce Methane Emissions

Don Muang Tollway Public Company Limited (DMT), led by Ms. Atchara Charoenporn, Chief of Sustainable Development Officer, visited the pilot rice field in Wat Yom Subdistrict, Bang Pa-in District, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province to monitor the progress of its “Low-Carbon Rice Farming” project. The visit took place after the field had been allowed to dry according to the planned water management cycle under the Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) method, with no standing water remaining in the field that could generate methane emissions.
During the visit, the team observed the growth of the rice plants and monitored underground moisture levels through PVC pipes installed in the field to assess groundwater levels and ensure that the rice could continue to grow properly. The team also reviewed the use of agricultural drone technology for the next stage of fertilizer application, helping improve the precision and efficiency of field management.
In addition, the working team exchanged views with local farmers, particularly Mr. Pinit Khemthong, the owner of the rice plot, to learn from their farming experience, understand the challenges they face, and discuss what further support may be needed. These discussions will help refine low-carbon farming practices to better suit local conditions and support future expansion.
This project forms part of DMT’s efforts to promote low-carbon rice production, with the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions from the agricultural sector while strengthening community participation.
The activity reflects DMT’s commitment to promoting low-carbon agriculture alongside the application of technology in the farming sector to reduce environmental impacts, create sustainability for local communities, and continuously support the company’s ESG approach.
