Don Muang Tollway Public Company Limited started a trial service for Tollway users to use Smart Purse card to pay for the tollway fee, under the project named “Tollway Smart Purse”. This is a service to provide a more convenient payment option to the users, in addition to the existing Cash and Coupon payment. Smart Purse and/or 7-Card member cards can be purchased and refilled at any of the 8,200 7-Eleven stores countrywide.

The Company, being well aware of the technology trend for electronic cash card payment and the continually growing number of cardholders, sees the benefits of providing more convenience and better transaction speed for the tollway users via the “Smart Purse” usage. In addition, the company sees the benefits of better and faster cash management process, ie. reducing the time spent on daily cash counting, pick up and depositing at banks. The benefits also extend to the minimization of risk from fraud as well as fake banknotes.

This project is the result of the cooperation between Don Muang Tollway Public Company Limited and Thai Smart Card Company Limited, the “Smart Purse” service provider and a subsidiary of CP ALL Public Company who operates the 7-Eleven convenience stores in Thailand. The main purpose of this project is to offer an electronic tollway payment option with “Smart Purse” for convenience and ease of use with less transaction time, ie. no waiting time for change. As such, the Don Muang Tollway Public Company Limited offers a ‘Mix Mode’ scheme where tollway users are able to make the payment via Smart Purse, Coupon and cash at the same toll collection booth.

With this trendy technology of “Smart Purse” card as an electronic payment tool, the Company is able to utilize the same card as the promotional tool by offering marketing campaigns in cooperative planning with CP ALL. In the near future, in addition to the payment, the Company has plans to launch Electronic Coupon using “Smart Purse”. This is to replace the existing paper coupon. This electronic coupon can be purchased and refilled at any of the 7-Eleven stores in Thailand, especially the 3000 stores in Bangkok and vicinity where approximately 1200 customers visit each store daily. The cooperation/alliance between Don Muang Tollway and Thai Smart Card was commenced with the said trial service for 6 months from Novemver 9, 2010 to May 2011, with the first phase at 3 booths, ie. Don Muang (inbound), Din Daeng (outbound), and National Monument (outbound). The feedbacks from the users were very positive. As a consequence, since June 20, 2011, the project has expanded to cover all the booths operated by the Company.

As a showcase of how the Company progressed in capability improvement and technology management, the “Tollway Smart Purse” project was selected to receive an award, on March 23, 2011, from Dr. Verachai Verameteekul, minister of Science and Technology Ministry at the ICT Excellence Awards 2010 Program. This program was hosted, at the Plaza Athenee Hotel, by Thailand Management Association (TMA), Thailand National Electronics and Computer Technology Center (NECTEC), Software Park Thailand and College of Innovation, Thammasat University (CITU). The award signifies Donmuang Tollway on their management excellence in applying Thai software to their business (Thai Software Adoption Project Award). As such, the award boosted the confidence and pride in the project for bringing payment convenience and speed to the tollway users.
